Bristol Choir Convention 2014

Our annual Spring trip to the Bristol Choir Convention was a great success. Claire organised and facilitated an excellent day out for us - many thanks to her.
St George’s Hall (built in the early 1820s as a Commissioners Church in the Greek Revival Style) was an inspiring and atmospheric venue for our day of tuition and evening concert. Our Big Sing sessions were led as ever by Nick Petts, Nickomo, Dee Jarlett and Ali Orbaum, and as always the combined sound of the many choirs was awe inspiring – the quality of the harmonies enhanced by the acoustics of such a magnificent, galleried hall.
Songs this year felt manageable to learn within the two sessions; I especially liked ‘That’s What Friends Are For’ by Dee Jarlett and ‘I See You’ by Nick Prater (friend/colleague to many in the singing world, who has very sadly passed away recently).
Time for a practice and meal break – Nando’s, Waggamama’s, Pizza Express etc!
Then on to our evening concert, all excellent performances – several larger/combined choirs, including a Bristol based group called RiffRaff. We had renditions of Elbow’s ‘One Day Like This’ and ‘The Java Jive Song’ (I Like Coffee etc...) - all a joy to watch and listen to, also nice to see the variety of colours worn by everyone
We thoroughly enjoyed performing our trio of up-beat numbers – ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’, ‘Prayer for Safehouse’ and ‘Open Your Heart’.
All in all a great day out, thank you Claire.
