La Ciotat Trip

Friday 5 – Monday 8 October 2012
Visit to La Ciotat, France (twinned with Bridgwater)

Company of Voices and Exe Valley Voices joined Yvette Staelens’ choir Voice of the People for a weekend in La Ciotat, on the coast near Marseilles. We met up with Citharista, the choir from La Ciotat, and sang in the magnificent seventeenth century church, Eglise Notre Dame. The songs we performed were:-
Ama hee (from the Baka people of equatorial Africa)
Unison in Harmony (Jim Boyes)
Peace in our Time (Nick Prater)
Since first I saw your Face (Thomas Ford, 17thC madrigal)
Let us Dream/River Chat (Tim Hill and John Warner)
Innan ay gappu Ana (Australian lullaby)
Moon River (arranged by Wendy Sergeant)
Okolo (traditional Czech)
Wangari (Polly Bolton)
E Malama (Hawaiian earth blessing, arranged by Nickomo)

For a detailed – and hilarious – account of the trip, with photos and video, see Brian Smedley’s blog (of Bridgwater International, who organised the trip):-
